Man, I haven't done one of these in ages! Anywho, it's time for another "DiC vs Nintend... er Seg... okay, I guess it Konami this time"! This time we have the star of several of the legendary Castlevania games, the wielder of the Vampire Killer himself... Simon Belmont!

Simon Belmont, just like Sonic the Hedgehog, underwent a drastic (possibly moreso) change in design at some point, so, just like Sonic, I decided to go with his design at the time that DiC made their version, so as to be fair.

Speaking of drastic, it seems that even when I try to play fair and give DiC the benefit of the doubt... they still manage to make their Simon look MUCH different than the real Simon. O_O I mean, there were subtle differences between DiC's Mario and Nintendo's Mario or DiC's Sonic and Sega's Sonic... but wow, when it comes to Simon Belmont, DiC's changes were anything but subtle! :XD:

Well, the visual changes speak for themselves (and how!) as usual, so I'll go ahead and briefly go over the other changes.

For starters, Konami's Simon is a brave and courageous hero who has sworn to fight all evil that may arise by using powers bestowed upon the Belmont bloodline by God himself. Often times he must battle mummies, zombies, demons, ghosts, and, most especially, vampires. His worst enemy is that of Count Dracula. Simon is a serious customer and believes in his holy mission.

DiC's Simon is similar, except there's no mention of holiness or anything like that. Also, he feigns courage, as deep down he's actually a coward. Also, he's incredibly pompous, egotistical, selfish, and vain. He doesn't do anything because he believes in his mission so much that he'd rather look good in the eyes of fair maidens. Truthfully, he much prefers looking at himself in a mirror than fight evildoers.

Heh... looks like the visual designs aren't the only things that DiC changed drastically for Simon. Mario and Sonic were changed, yes, but nowhere near as much as Simon Belmont. The character was changed so much to the point of being practically unrecognizable, both visually and in personality.

Anywho, that's that. I don't have a whole lot more to say, and the picture DEFINITELY speaks for itself.

Ya, I think it's probably the most drastic change that DiC has done to a video game character in one of their cartoons... though the Castlevania series was always kind of mature, so maybe they tried to change things to make them more kid-friendly? Of course, that doesn't explain some other things they changed about other characters, so instead I'll just say they didn't care. :XD:

Give Captain N's Simon a beak and he's Launchpad McQuack from one of those duck-shows (I don't remember which one... ^^; ), but in blue instead of red, wearing yellow rubber gloves instead of a scarf, and being dumber looking. :XD:

And on a not-that-interesting note, I have never ever seen an episode of Captain N.

Anyways, nice work! Konami Simon looks awesome, and Captain N Simon looks good, too (well, as good as he can look, for being the Captain N show's Simon, that is  )

...

Words!
Oh, man... I've seen Captain N... and yes, that thought ALWAYS crossed my mind. He looks like a friggen' pilot! :XD:

Captain N was definitely a nice concept (even if executed quite horribly), though I always wondered why the character designs were so off in that show... even for DiC. Still, despite the fact that Simon lost most of his dignity in Captain N, the nostalgic part of me still clings on to that show, as well as DiC's other video-game themed cartoons.
