I've already used "Donkey Kong" as the name for a submission, so I switched the D and K to make the name different. In retrospect, maybe it wasn't such a good idea...

Anywho, I have nothing against the current Donkey Kong (the much smaller, yet buffer one with the red tie and hair curl), but I still remember a time when the design for Donkey Kong was radically different (regardless of who exactly you think the current DK is).

Another strange thing is that nowadays most people don't consider Donkey Kong to be a Mario character, when back when I was a little kid (before Donkey Kong Country came out) everyone considered him as such. Donkey Kong Country really did do a lot more for the big ape than simply change his look, I guess.

Incidentally, I still remember way back as a kid when I first saw Diddy Kong, I thought it was just a redesigned Donkey Kong Junior... well, in some ways, I guess that's still kinda true. Ever since Diddy Kong started appearing in Mario sports titles (and Mario Kart games), I haven't seen Donkey Kong Junior anywhere. I wish they'd bring him back for at least a Mario Kart game (he was only ever in the SNES Super Mario Kart). And if you believe the current Donkey Kong is DK Jr. grown-up (it's the popular theory), it could still work since they have Baby Mario and Baby Peach racing alongside their grown-up counterparts.

Man, I sure tend to rant when it comes to games and my childhood, eh?

Anywho, about this picture... yes, we have Donkey Kong and his son as they looked like before DKC (or the Game Boy Donkey Kong game) made the scene. I decided to give a little bit of classic flare to Mario and Pauline, as well. Of course, this isn't how they appeared way back in the original Donkey Kong or Donkey Kong Junior, these designs are more recent than that... but they're still outdated designs, regardless. Especially the ones for the Kongs, due to the drastic changes DKC brought about.

So, ya, that's that. If I don't draw this obscure stuff, nobody else will.
